Improving Efficiency and Sustainability in Aluminum Beverage Can Recycling
Project Funded by the Arconic Foundation
Join us on an information packed webinar on ways to improve efficiency and sustainability in aluminum beverage can recycling. This project is the culmination of a 2-year project, funded by the Arconic Foundation and in partnership with RTI International.
Aluminum UBCs (Used Beverage Cans) have a high potential for direct recyclability. However, missorted materials and commodity degradation can result in significant inefficiencies, equipment downtime, & compromised product quality. This presentation reports:
• The latest information on the losses/contamination of materials;
• The cost of contamination in recycling of aluminum UBCs;

Shifting Tides: Trends in Beverage Container Deposit and Packaging Legislation
A One-Day Online Conference Presented By the Container Recycling Institute
January 10, 2022
8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Pacific Time
From national beverage container deposit legislation proposals, to state bottle bill modernizations, to passage of EPR for packaging laws – and more – this conference will provide comprehensive insights into the latest U.S. recycling legislation developments and trends.
Hear from a wide range of experts on the following topics, with plenty of time for audience Q&A:
• Bottle Bill Progress in New England: In 2021, Connecticut passed most significant bottle bill expansion in the U.S. in about a decade. What does this legislation accomplish? And what is the status of proposed beverage container deposit program upgrades in nearby Vermont and Massachusetts?
• At Long Last: EPR for Packaging Comes to the U.S.: Much-heralded progress occurred in 2021 with the passage of the nation’s first two extended producer responsibility (EPR) for packaging laws (in Maine and then Oregon). How did we get here? How can we develop model EPR legislation for other states?
• Breaking New Ground: California and National Updates: California’s 2021 adoption of a comprehensive slate of recycling-related bills represents important progress in the nation’s third-largest state. And the introduction of legislation that would establish a national beverage container deposit-return system shows renewed support for a U.S.-wide solution. Can a national bottle bill finally become a reality?
• Where Do We Go From Here? These legislative changes are occurring at a time when the COVID pandemic has impacted beverage container demand and recycling, and disrupted the supply chain of recycled material. So what happens next? Our expert panelists will discuss what they expect the future to look like with new recycling legislation on the books and in the works.
