BROOME COUNTY PARKS RECYCLE!

Broome County is excited to announce all Broome County Parks have new recycling containers located onsite for park users to recycle their bottles and cans.

In an effort to prevent litter and provide convenient recycling, the Division of Solid Waste has located 162 blue recycling containers throughout the parks specifically for bottles & cans. Previously, County parks adhered to a carry-in/ carry-out policy.

Instituting recycling in the parks is another step forward as the County continues to expand and support the recycling program. Placement of recycling containers will increase the quantity of material being diverted from our landfill, saving valuable landfill space and natural resources.

The Container Recycling Institute estimates 215 billion plastic, glass and aluminum beverage bottles and cans were sold in the U.S in 2006. An estimated 141 billion were not recycled—almost 10 million tons of wasted aluminum, plastic, and glass.
